We are speaking about the legendaire Bidjar Carpet, frequently described as the “ the iron carpet”. It belongs to the most robust and durable Persian carpets of all. The high quality wool used for the Bidjar is being knotted still wet and the double Gordes knots technique are being tightly pushed together with the aid of a metal comb, in order to afford a very tight pile which is nearly impermeable and thick. This excellent Persian rugs are being woven in all the district around the city of Bidjar, some other places like Tekab or Zandjan are famous for the exquisite pieces or the more commercial pieces. This mountainous region called Kermanschah is situated in the nord west of Iran and the population is mostly kurdish. The typical pattern used is the “Herati” design all over or with a central rhombus, rarely with floral patterns, the polychrome warm colors enable the Bidjar carpet a harmonious touch in any kinds of decorations.
