Size 

There is a large  diversity of size of carpets and rugs.No obstand  There are measures considered standard, but it is unusual to find exact measures, since t he handmade carpets are not the result of manufacture working. they have been made by individual artisans. 

Furthermore we can find them in different forms.  We can find them round, oval, square and in the runner form. 

 

Origin
 

The art of making carpets took his beginning thousands of years ago in the orient.

Depending on its origin, the characteristics are quite different.  Whether in the materials used, the types of knots or  of pigments  of colours used.

The most typical origins are:

Persia / Iran: the raw materials used for making Persian or  rugs are cotton, wool and silk. Wool and silk are used primarily for the carpet pile. The warp and weft are usually made of cotton.

India: The design of center and fond of the carpet are similar to the persian carpet, without so many details. Free asymmetrical compositions with hunting scenes and animals against a background where the dark red predominates, are very typical.

Nepal: There is a fairly common feature is the presence of smooth "fields" on the carpet. Its soft colors reflect simplicity. And the fact of using vegetable dyes originates a  relaxing effect.

Turkey: are mostly monochromatic with geometric elements. They have a wide range of colors.

Russia: its decoration is based on elementary schemes, such as hexagons, stars and rhombus.
Sometimes they incorporate motives of animals, plants and human figures.
The colors are very bright, with a tendance for the contrast between the bright red and colder tones. The material used is wool.

 

Type of knots 
 

The Turkish knot or Ghiordes knot

Used in the vast majority of Turkish carpets. This is a Persian knot that greater strength but the consequence is that the carpet is thicker. This type of knot is often done using hooks.

 

Persian knot or Seneh, called asymetric knot


This knot takes up less space and better snaps into place and as a result the carpet is thinner or greater number of knots. This type of knot is made with fingers without using hooks.
